In 2019 our owner Joy had some chickens from the neighbor visit and discovered her love for their personalities and antics. After the neighbor collected the chickens, she realized that she missed seeing them around and decided to start her own tiny flock. In a nearby town a woman had 5 tiny chicks available.  

Although she didn’t know if they would be hens or roosters Joy accepted and doted on each one. As fortune would have it and a bit of luck only one of the chicks were a rooster. A beautiful Black Copper Marnes as rooster started to grow, he also started crowing. At first, the juvenal crow was funny but as he got older his crow grew into a beautiful song of his people. Since his songs were so loud and frequent she took that as inspiration to give him a name. Crow, Russell Crow and his name later became the inspiration for the name of our little homestead. “RUSSELL’S ROOST” 

Sadly, we lost Russell in 2023 but his memory and legend lives on in his son GH and in the name of our little endeavor.
